Neurological Hydrotherapy & Land Rehabilitation Gym at Hydrotherapy Brisbane

Rebuild Strength and Function with Land and Aquatic Neurological Physiotherapy

At Hydrotherapy Brisbane, our Neurological Gym provides specialised land-based physiotherapy treatment designed to support people living with neurological conditions. Our gym area contains a weight machine, parallel bars, a Litegate machine and treadmill for weight-suspended walking and mobility.

As our goal is to assist our patients to function well on land, progressing from partial weight-bearing in the hydrotherapy pool to full weight-bearing on land is essential.

Many patients requiring neurological rehabilitation will start their rehabilitation in the aquatic environment. The buoyancy, resistance, and warmth of the water create a safe and supportive environment to move, strengthen, and retrain the body – even when movement on land feels difficult.

As they begin to improve the physiotherapist will often use a combination of both land and aquatic physiotherapy to maximize improvement.

Aquatic therapy helps reduce pain, ease stiffness, and improve coordination, while promoting independence and confidence through movement.

Conditions we support

Our team of experienced physiotherapists work with clients across a range of neurological and neurodegenerative conditions, including:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Stroke (CVA) recovery
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Every session is tailored to each individual’s goals, abilities, and progress – ensuring safe, meaningful outcomes.

Why Water Makes a Difference

Many people with neurological conditions experience limited movement or fatigue on land. In the water, buoyancy reduces the effects of gravity, allowing for greater mobility, longer exercise sessions, and improved control.

Hydrotherapy offers a pre-functional advantage, meaning patients can often perform activities in water that are too difficult or exhausting on land – helping to build strength, endurance, and confidence.

Benefits include:

Improved strength, coordination, and endurance

Increased range of motion and flexibility

Enhanced balance and walking ability

Reduced muscle tone and stiffness

Better overall function and independence

Supporting a Wide Range of Goals

For some clients, hydrotherapy focuses on rebuilding function and independence – such as standing, walking, or transferring more easily.

For others, the focus may be on:

  • Pain management
  • Maintaining joint range and muscle length
  • Improving posture and sitting balance
  • Early fitness and movement retraining

Our physiotherapists also incorporate upper limb rehabilitation to address pain, promote activity, and restore movement following injury or stroke.

A Supportive Environment for Every Ability

Our purpose-built hydrotherapy facility in Aspley is fully accessible, featuring a warm shallow pool with ramp access and a deeper pool for advanced exercises. Our team provides one-on-one treatment, guidance and close supervision in a calm, welcoming environment.

Whether your goal is to regain independence, reduce pain, or simply move more freely, our Neurological Hydrotherapy Programcan help you achieve lasting improvements in both function and confidence. Contact us today.
