Before your first solo session in the pool, we will need to assess your abilities. This may be as simple as a quick session with a personal trainer or exercise physiologist, or a longer session with a physio to fully assess your needs. Once you have a program, you can use the pool by yourself within specified hours. Please contact us to discuss and address your individual needs.
Individual physiotherapy treatments (water & land):
We can provide on going individual aquatic physiotherapy (hydrotherapy), design a program for you to do independently or for a carer to do with you, or where appropriate we can offer class or group options.
Hydrotherapy is appropriate for a wide range of conditions and for elite sportspeople, young babies, older frailer clients and for many musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and neurological conditions at any age.
Treatment may involve hands on techniques and assisted exercise or may be based around exercise and functional activity all directed at improving your movement on land.
When immersed in water a number of factors influence the way we move and feel, including:
- decreased effect of gravity
- hydrostatic pressure
- effect of overall gentle warming can have a positive effect on movement, pain and stiffness
- as well as many other benefits
The very weak client (eg after trauma, surgery, or a neurological event) will often be able to achieve functional goals in the water before they can on land.
Patients with arthritis, fibromyalgia, neck and back pain are just a few of those that can be treated in a hydrotherapy pool. There are many other conditions that may benefit from hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy or Aquatic Physiotherapy applies physiotherapy principles of treatment in a water environment. It can be a complete treatment or part of a treatment that includes some land based interventions.
